FP-192

FP-192 was first collared on February 28, 2011 in the Corn Dance Unit. She was known to be 1 year, 8 months of age because in July 2007, FWC had marked her with a transponder (K-287) at the den of FP-170 in the Picayune Strand State Preserve. Her capture site was a straight-line distance of 30 miles from her birthplace. Sadly, her mother, FP-170, was found killed by another panther only two days after FP-192 was collared in Big Cypress.

FP-192 denned in March 2012. On April 15, 2012 we marked 3 kittens, K-354, K-355, and K-356.

Between September 10 and 19, she showed signs of denning, however, we found no kittens when we checked the site on September 21, 2012. We did find fresh bear scat at the site.

FP-192 denned again in February 2013 and we marked 2 male kittens.

K-387 02-26-2013

On 11-25-2015 K-387 was struck and killed by a vehicle on SR-29 between Pollywog Road and SR-78 in Glades County. This is north of the Caloosahatchee River and 65 miles from where he was born.

K-388 02-26-2013

On 1/27/2017 the remains of K-388 were collected on private property east of CR835 in Hendry County.  He was 4 years old. The cause of death was intraspecific aggression. This is a straight line distance of forty miles from his natal den.

The following day FP-192 returned to the den to care for her kittens.

On February 11, 2015 we changed FP-192's collar to an ATS Iridium LITE/GPS model G2110L collar. The satellite and VHF components failed in 10 months.

Her home range is 140 km2 in the Corn Dance Unit.

March 23, 2015

We handled two kittens at her den. K-441 a 3 pound 12 ounce male and K-442 a 3 pound 9 ounce male. There were 18 days old.
